Winter tour in Karelia and Murmansk

This 6-day combination tour is all about the glory of nature. Enjoy the inimitable scenery of Karelia while based in Petrozavodsk and taking day-trips to the region's most popular locations like Kivach and Ruskeala, and then, after an overnight train ride, find yourself in Murmansk, one of the world's few accessible locations suitable for watching a truly amazing natural phenomenon — the Northern Lights.

Petrozavodsk

Arrival, City tour in Petrozavodsk. Transfer to the natural reserve "Kivach" (waterfall) + visit to museum of Nature and alley of Karelian bitch, transfer to the hotel.

Ruskeala

Excursion to the mountain park "Ruskeala".

Kinerma

Visit of the Karelian village of Kinerma, transfer to the railway station, Nights train to Murmansk.

Murmansk

City tour of Murmansk. Night tour: "Nothern Lights".

Teriberka

Tour to the village of Teriberka. Night tour: "Nothern Lights".

Murmansk

Transfer to the airport.

Program

Petrozavodsk

1 Day

Meet your guide at railway station.
Breakfast at cafe.
Departure for city tour in minibus "Winter in Petrozavodsk".

You will get acquainted with the main sightseeing of the capital of Karelia, interesting facts from the history of the city and of the republic. Visit to the Onega lake embarkment where unique collection of modern avant-garde sculpture is situated.

Transfer the natural reserve "Kivatch" (80 km), waterfall admiring, visit to Museum of Nature and alley Karelian birch.

Waterfall "Kivatch" — second large plain waterfall in Europe, falls by four ledges from a height of 10.7 m. The name of the waterfall comes from the Karelian word kivas — snow mountain. Having visited here in 1785, the great Russian poet G. R. Derzhavin dedicated the famous ode "Waterfall" to this beautiful nature monument.

Lunch packed.
Transfer to the Petrozavodsk. Check in to the hotel "Piter Inn" 4*.
Dinner at the hotel.

Ruskeala

2 Day

Breakfast at hotel.
Transfer to the maintain park “Ruskeala” 260 km (4 hours). Guide will speak you about the places you will across in the car.
Lunch at a local cafe.


A visit to the main attraction of the Northern Priladozhie — the mountain park of Ruskeala with its steep cliffs and emerald lakes, where you will see the hidden corners of the former marble quarry, walk along mysterious adits and drifts.


Transfer to Petrozavodsk (4 hours).
Dinner at the hotel.

Kinerma

3 Day

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out.
Transfer to the village of Kinerma (110 km).
A visit to the village of Kinerma, which is a monument of folk wooden architecture of Livvik Karelians. Excursion around the Karelian village, visiting the chapel. Lunch with dishes of national cuisine in the old house-museum.
Transfer to Petrozavodk (110 km).
̴ 16:30 – Dinner at restaurant “Paulainer”.
Departure to Murmansk with night train.

Murmansk

4 Day

12:00 – Meeting with the guide at Murmansk railway station. City tour on minivan.
14:30 – Accommodation in hotel “Azimut” 4**** or similar.
Lunch in the hotel.
Free time.
Dinner in the hotel.
21:00 – Departure for the tour "Northern lights" with professional guide-photographer (duration 4-6 hours depending on the weather conditions).

Teriberka

5 Day

Breakfast in hotel.
10:00 — Departure for the tour to the ocean coast in Teriberka (duration 8-9 hours).

The winter road to Teriberka is accompanied by charming northern landscapes and a rare sun. You will learn what is the Arctic climate zone, you will feel the power and indomitable Arctic ocean which does not freeze along all the coast of the Kola Peninsula. A sleigh ride after snowmobiles to the coast of the ocean with a rocky shore. Duration of stay on the coast is about 20-30 minutes at the discretion of the guide.


Lunch at the local cafe.
18:00 – Return to hotel.
Dinner in the hotel.
21:00 – Departure for the tour “Northern lights” with professional guide-photographer (duration 4-6 hours depending on the weather conditions).

Murmansk

6 Day

Breakfast in hotel.
Check-out from the hotel.
Departure flight to Moscow (in the afternoon or in the evening)

Notes:
We recommend to take with: backpack or travel bag, comfortable hiking clothing: warm pants, warm sweater, wool socks (2 pairs), simple socks (2-3 pairs), t-shirts, warm jacket, wool hat, gloves, warm loose shoes.

* If restrictions are imposed on the entrance to museums for a certain number of people, we can serve group requests with the division of groups into smaller ones, with the predominant use of the same transport (or with a different number and capacity of transport), but with a large number of guides.

** Some museums or excursions can be excluded from the program if circumstances beyond the control of the tour operator require it (time constraints due to covid-19 / bans on the operation of facilities). At the same time, as far as possible, we will offer an alternative replacement.
